Mina was born and raised in the East Farthing of Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England) and spend her childhood learning all the sorts of things generally required of a professional adventurer. Able to ride, box, shoot, make and read maps, make chainmail and use a broadsword (with varying degrees of efficiency) she was disgusted to find that adventuring is not considered a suitable occupation these days.

So, instead of slaying dragons and hunting vampires and the like, Mina spends her days writing about hot shifters, government conspiracies and vampire lords with more than their fair share of RAWR. Turns out wanna-be adventurers have quite the turn of imagination after all...

(But she keeps that sword sharp, just in case the writing career is just a dream and she really *is* an adventurer.)

What did I like?
I'm from Indiana originally and some of the phrases used in the book reminded me of home. I love it! One of the things I love about M/M is the lack of coyness, their communication was straightforward, no games. I loved the way the author used peeks into their lives to show the relationship was over a long period of time. Their bantering was adorable.

What did I not like?
Normally I'm interested in a more dramatic read. There wasn't a lot of drama or tension past the initial meeting.

Recommendation: If you are interested in a lighthearted, no drama read; this would be a story to read.

ARC Review: The Brick Yard (What's His Passion?) by Carol Lynne

This was a hard story to read for a lot of reasons. It was dark and heartbreaking. Both the neighborhood and the MMA circuit were hard, harsh places to grow up and everyone came away scarred from their past. Also their idea to pay it forward, was the best tribute, very heartwarming.  It was also nice that the neighborhood really came together to help out. I was glad to find a HEA at the end for a lot of the secondary characters too, not just the main characters. Although the story started out dark and there were a lot of sad and upsetting hills along the way, in the end it all come out good.

There were a lot of communications and commentary that was hurtful and misinterpreted. Even if that is not how the person talking meant it, it still hurt the person hearing it. It was also hard reading about Dray and Lucky's communications. If you haven't been through a past like Lucky's, it's hard to understand where their lack of self-worth comes from. I think though, that Lucky's experiences are part of why that place will be so great. Dray is right that being able to talk to someone like Lucky without feeling judged and looked down upon is probably the best resource there is for those kids.

Would I recommend this book?
If you like a gritty read, will love and fighting and the ability to heal and move past your past, this is a great read. Please note that there is talk of abused childhoods, so if you have issues with that, be warned this might not be a book that is for you. I loved the extra scenes and the interviews, those were like the cherry on top.

The opening was intensive. I found the author's take on the concepts of shifter and shifter biology new and fascinating. There's an interesting group of characters in the story. There is a lot of mystery but a good bit of hints that can make you think you figured it out.

Recommendation: I look forward to the next part of this story. I can't wait to see if my conclusions are correct.

ARC Review: Nyght's Eve (Breakers' Bad Boys 2) by Laurie Roma

Breakers is a town to fall in love with and in. The people are the best of small towns. People who circle the wagons around those who have been hurt and need support. Nyght's Eve was a story of healing and love. Almost all the major players needed support and healing - even the dogs.

Daryk Nyght, Dare to his friends, is a trauma surgeon forced to act against his beliefs and it has him burnt out. Taking some time to heal, he visits his old friend Hammer (Hammer's Fall) in Breakers. Here he meets Evie Beaumont, cousin to his friends and rescuer of dogs. Evie has some dark spots in her past that she is still haunted by. Together Dare and Evie, heal each other and bring safety to some of the more vulnerable elements of the town.

After reading Nyght's Eve, I can't wait for the next book. I'm hoping to hear more about whether or not Dante got the girl. There are so many lovable characters in Breakers, and I can't wait to find out their stories and revisit old friends.

Recommendation: Grab a glass of lemonade, put your feet up on the porch swing and plan to relax for an hour or two, Nyght's Eve is a wonderful way to spend a little "me" time with a book that is impossible to put down.

I like that Alexis is a strong female. Men (even dragonmen) have a spectacular ability to piss off women and their communication skills suck when it comes to the women in their life.

Recommendation:
It is a good introduction to a new series and I can't wait to read more about the secondary characters.

Note: It took a while to get myself psyched about reading this book. I am not a fan of Chet's, even though I felt bad about him losing his mate. This book changed my mind. I'm still not a big fan but I am a little more sympathetic to his pain.

I really liked Crystal's attitude towards Chet. She's all sass and attitude, taking him down a peg.


What did I not like?
I hate the attitudes of the clan, no one should have to choose between the love of their life and their family.

Recommendation:
If you weren't a fan of Chet's in Laid Bear 1 & 2, this is definitely the story to read. I love that it ends before the tragedy, (I hate sad endings). It is a nice glimpse into Chet's psyche.

What did I like?
I love the way that the story ended, with a taste of the shifting dynamics in the Sectors. I like that they accepted him and trusted him, it shows a great deal of growth in everyone's relationship.

What did I not like?
I don't like that they didn't take Trix's word as enough. That kinda hurts, the group lost some of its family vibe for me. I was disappointed right along with Trix on that one. I also thought that Logan's brutality was over the top. I know, I know, he's an egotistical psycho, but still...

Recommendation:
I love the Beyond series and this story gave some insights and depth to the series that I wasn't expecting. It makes it more real, and at the same time doesn't lose any of what makes it awesome.

What did I like?
I really liked the concept of the story. I love the idea that you can still have BDSM play (even with altered protocols) while enjoying pregnancy. I really enjoyed their private scenes at the end. 

What did I not like?
It was frustrating watching him struggle with issues from his past. Pregnancy hormones are nothing to mess with, the heroine is a lot stronger than I could have been. The other thing that bothered me was the mystery of the intruder. It felt like the surfaced was scratched but left me lots of questions. 

Would I recommend this read?
I really enjoyed reading this story. I haven't read the first book but am looking forward to finding out they solved the intruder mystery in the future.

A Scroll, A Pilot and A Cyborg Walk into a Bar...

The best part of this series is the richness and diversity of the world. I love that this story is about a scroll within the system. We get a lot of different backgrounds for the heroines and it helps to keep the series fresh. While these women all come from different backgrounds, they are all strong and courageous. Sonja is no exception. I am quite pleased with the heroes of this book. While I love noble, powerful, commanding alpha males as the next girl, it was nice to see a different kind of hero. These Alliance elites weren't the best and the brightest, but they fit the heroine's needs much better than any other elites.

Recommendation: I have loved every book in the series and look forward to the next one. I am hoping for a book about T'Karra and the Krystos in the future.

Forced marriages make me just want to smack the book characters.

I liked this book so much I went out and bought the sequel, Faery Wedding.

Blindfolded in a room, laid out on a bench, strapped face-down by silk covered rope. You hear footsteps, feel a breeze tickle across your naked flesh.

"Has she been a good girl?" He asks.

What did I like?
I like that they chose to share rather than make the heroine choose. I liked that they waited to marry until after they figured out how their relationship would work. 

What didn't I like?

The resolution to her issue was anti-climactic. I dislike that they pried into her past rather than waiting on her to tell them about it.

Would I recommend this book to a friend?

This was a good read. The heroes really complimented each other and the heroine. I found the way their relationship worked to be interesting.

What did I like?

I love the generous heart of the heroine. I also like the hero's mom's attitude about telling the hero's son about the heroine.

What didn't I like?

I disliked the hero's general attitude. He was mean and cruel to the heroine. There was no need to make her feel unwelcome by his parents. He can speak for himself but to ruin the parents relationship with her was selfish. I really think she shouldn't have forgiven him so fast, especially in light of the fact that he continued to keep information from her by not telling her about his son.

Would I recommend this book to a friend?

This was a great read and I'm looking forward to more about the family.

What did I like?
Although the story was short (only 40 pages) I was intrigued with where the story was going. The main trio managed to get together for their HEA within the short story.

What did I not like?
It was a cliffhanger kind of ending. Despite the trio getting their HEA, it felt incomplete and a bit rushed.

Would I recommend this book?
Definitely a series to look more into to.

What did I like?
This book dealt with the heavy subject of abuse. It showed healing and encouragement while still revealing the evilness of the act.

Would I recommend this to a friend?
I would encourage the reader to read the books in order, although it was ok as a standalone. This is the first book in the Chosen Series, a spin-off of the Denver Pack Series.

What did I like?
I love Brynn and her attitude towards Acksel. After the ways he screws up, she makes him prove he's learned to treat her better. I also like that they are moving into this century with the new laws. I also like the way Brynn finally proves herself. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of fight in the dog!

What did I not like?
Acksel needs to be brained multiple times in the beginning of this book. He was a classic example of the phrase: The road to Hell is paved with good intentions...

Recommendation: I am looking forward to more in this series, particularly Nila/Malachi and Mia/Lucien.

This is the first book in a new and heartbreaking series. We meet a group of soldiers who have lost have their team in an attack. After returning and being discredited, they are dismissed from the military. The children of their former commander became caught up in the drama of their father's former life. Running out of places to turn, they turn to the remainder of his former team. This starts off a sequence of events that brings everyone together again while opening up the pain of their former commander's betrayal.

Nice Change of Pace

What did I like?
I liked that while the story focused more on the couple it didn't lose the feeling of family so prevalent in the other books. There was enough appearances by the O'Kanes to feel like the story fit without overshadowing the fact that the hero/heroine were on the fringes.

What didn't I like?
While they overcame the problem, there wasn't a feeling of HEA that your get from the other books. The hero/heroine still have a ways to go to reach the same place as the other O'Kane couples.

Would I recommend this book to a friend?

If you like the Beyond books, this is a great addition to the series. If you haven't read the series, this is probably not the best place to start, definitely one of those read in order kind of books.
